Five of Pentacles

General

The Five of Pentacles is a card about poverty — whether this is a card about material poverty or a state of mind. This state of mind could be reflected in the fear of abandonment and fear of being rejected. This is about adversity but since it is a number 5, it could also signify that changes are around the corner. In traditional tarot, this card depicts two figures out in the cold, in rags. They look like they are incredibly poor and do not have access to basic necessities, and healthcare.

Upright

In the upright position, the Five of Pentacles suggests that the querent is about to enter into a time of hardship. This could be a time where they would feel insecure about themselves and where their future is headed. This is also about illness and poverty or loss. In love, this could talk about feeling isolated in a relationship or feeling incredibly lonely. This does not necessarily refer to romantic relationships but relationships with others in your life. You may feel disconnected and distant from others, and this may be a cycle of depression that the querent or their person is going through. In career and finances, this talks about poverty and being in debt or going bankrupt. This card is about hardships in the workplace or being fired. This could also mean that the querent is a bit of a social outcast in the workplace and soon will no longer be part of the firm/team.

Reversed

In the reversed position, the Five of Pentacles talks about a light at the end of the tunnel. This talks about all adversity coming to an end and a door opening for the querent. This talks about recovery, healing and overcoming difficulties. In love, this could mean that there are improvements to one’s love life and learning to open oneself to others. This card is about learning to overcome fears of abandonment and rejection and simply taking a leap of faith. In career and finances, card talks about an ending of the issues at the work place. This also talks about recovery from loss and being able to pay one’s debts off.
