Strength

General

Traditional depictions of the strength card shows a woman holding the jaws of a lion. She is meant to represent courage and control over the lion, but in a loving and compassionate way. The lion symbolises our survival mode and Strength represents the need to discipline ourselves and control ourselves during times of turmoil, otherwise, it may lead to serious consequences. For me, I have replaced the lion with a husky (one of my favourite dogs, I call this Husky Zeus), and the husky also represents courage (and more importantly, loyalty which I think is important especially in the context of the self – we need to be loyal to ourselves and to put us as priority). I also chose not to show the girl holding the dog’s mouth open but walking beside him as an equal. To me, it is important that we learn to deal with these baser instincts by learning to understand and cohabit with it. This is not going to be an overt show of strength but an internal strength of being controlled and collected and not giving into fear or to our baser instincts.

Upright

The Strength card can mean that you need to draw upon your inner strength during this time.

In terms of love, you are being asked to be more patient and caring towards others (friends, family or romantic relationship). In terms of career and finances, you are becoming more masterful of your skills and it could be that this is going to be a time where you would be controlling your spending. Any difficulties you may be facing, you can overcome, you need to stay vigilant and strong emotionally, physically or mentally.

Reversed

Strength poses a more negative meaning (depending on context) when it comes to love, and it could show that there is a co-dependant relationship, or it could be that there is an imbalance of effort between the two of you. One of you is giving your all to the relationship, and the other one is sitting back. In terms of career and finances, you are a little too impulsive, and you may have to curb those impulses.

Astrological / Temporal Associations

The Strength card is represented by Leo, and very often Leos represent courage, sovereignty and rulership. Strength can sometimes mean that you are in control of your emotions, and this is quite aligned with what Leo represents. Leos are also hardworking and are determined – these are traits that may also be embodied by Strength.
